Not Loving Motherhood? There is Hope!

|

Let’s face it. Oftentimes being a mom is far from easy. And in those times when our enthusiasm wains, mom-guilt is sure to abound. Have you ever found yourself not loving motherhood?

This is not a very popular topic, especially in Christian circles where we know our kids are a blessing. And the very thought of……not relishing every moment of being a mom feels like (and is sometimes viewed by the super holy, homeschooling, freezer meal making, garden growing, Instagram boasting sister as being) a cardinal sin.

Transparency

Make no mistake. Being Mommy is the most amazing thing in the world to me! Each day I am amazed that God has given me the privilege (along with my husband) of shaping, training, and simply witnessing these two precious lives! But my intent here is never to paint a perfect picture of my world and make you wonder what’s wrong with you.

I am committed to always peel back the curtain and give you a peek into my real life. To let you know you are not alone, and you are not crazy. Well, actually you probably are, but the good news is we all are! It is not about having no problems or struggles. Our success as moms does not hinge on us having all the right answers. Rather, it’s all dependent on us knowing the One who does.

A Choice

Motherhood is a journey full of funny stories and powerful moments. If we allow God to lead us it becomes an incredible adventure of growing, learning and prayerfully becoming more like Him in the day in/day out call to full-time motherhood. (Whether you stay home or go to an office, if you have kids, you’re a full-time mom.)

Some days will be deep as God powerfully reveals more of Himself to us through the sacred channels of our precious babies. Other times will be funny snapshots of life we’ll treasure for many years to come. Like the time when Mikaela (at age 3) became upset when we told her she would have to wait to get married! (Too many Disney princess movies!!)

If we will make a decision (yes, we actually have a choice) to enjoy this season, we’re sure to find ourselves laughing, growing and sometimes crying along the way. WARNING: This is not for the faint of heart! There will be moments of powerful highs and others of overwhelming fatigue and emotional despair. And this can all come before breakfast!

There’s Hope

Of our own we are hopeless against the daily pressures and struggles and the emotional roller-coaster this position inevitably brings, but know this…Of our own we are hopeless, but through the power of our great God each of us can face the challenges of each day and emerge victorious!

My goal is always to take our daily battles and apply the healing balm of His Word. (Find more encouragement along these line in my post For the Christian Mom Who is Losing Her Mind: You Are Not Alone! )

Motherhood is a calling. Regardless of how you “feel,” if you have been blessed with a child, you are called to this life! But know this, my friends, He who called you has equipped you! He is able! And through Him we can do whatever He calls us to do through His strength at work in us! (Philippians 4:13)

Until the next week remember this…

“But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and [a]show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may [b]pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!” 2 Corinthians 12:9
